By two several agreements dated the 14th October 1899 respectively and made between His Excellency Sir Henry Arthur Blake Governor of Hongkong and its Dependencies and certain persons named respectively Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Tsun a portion of the sea shore of the New Territory registered in the Land Office of this Colony as Lantao Marine Lot No 2 (the place where the majority of your petitioners pursue their said occupation was leased and demised to the said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Tsun for a term of five years at an annual rent of $300 for the purpose of searching for and obtaining corals or shells to the exclusion of all other persons.

Under and by virtue of the said agreements the said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Teun claimed the exclusive right to fish and dredge for corals or shells in and about the said lot and set up notices warning persons from going within the boundaries of the said lot for the purpose of searching and obtaining corals or shells therefrom under threats of arrest and prosecution for trespass.
9. As a consequence of these said notices Wong Shing one of your petitioners was arrested by the Police on the instructions of and charged by the said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Tsun in the Police Court of this Colony for trespass and larceny of corals and shells.

Upon this trial on the said charges the said Wong Shing was acquitted whereupon civil proceedings were commenced against him by the said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Taun in the Summary Jurisdiction of the Supreme Court of Hongkong for $100 damages for trespass.

Similar proceedings were commenced by the said Chan Kwai Chiu and Lai Hok Tsun against ten other of your petitioners. The action against the said Wong Shing was ordered to be tried before the Full Court of Hongkong and it was agreed between all parties to the various actions that the Judgment given in
